HR Generalist – Back Office For Organizing in Michigan (“BOOM”)
BOOM LLC provides the backend finance, administrative and HR service functions for our network of nonprofit organizations and sponsored projects. Founded by leaders from 482Forward, the Michigan Education Justice Coalition and the Urban Core Collective, BOOM serves as a backoffice hub to meet the growing needs of base building organizations, allowing them to focus on programmatic and organizing priorities.
Position Overview:
In partnership with the HR Director, the HR Generalist will provide essential human resources support, contributing to the effective management of our team by handling a variety of HR tasks, ensuring compliance and fostering a positive work environment. This role demands a highly organized, empathetic, and detail-oriented individual who is committed to our values of social, economic, and racial justice.
Responsibilities:
Support day-to-day HR operations of BOOM and partner organizations, including staff support and communication, onboarding and training, payroll and benefits administration, HR compliance, and reporting:
- HR administration: Organize HR files and documentation, maintain HRIS data accuracy, assist with HR projects
- Benefits & Payroll Administration: Assist with biweekly payroll process and reporting, assist with the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and PTO
- Training and development: Assist with the coordination of training and development programs, maintain training records and track employee progress
- Compliance and Reporting: Maintain accurate HR records and prepare reports as needed, assist with HR audits and compliance reviews
Key Qualifications:
The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change, and experience working within a values-driven organization is strongly preferred. Additional requirements are:
- The successful candidate must believe in the core values of social, economic and racial justice and be driven by the mission of BOOM and its partners; cultural competence and experience working within diverse communities and staff required
- Commitment to social, economic, and racial justice; mission-driven with cultural competency
- 3+ years of HR experience, preferably in a non-profit environment
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience and certifications
- Strong understanding of employment laws and regulations
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills; self-starter, meets deadlines, manages multiple tasks
- Values-driven with a high degree of integrity and confidentiality and a good sense of humor
- Proficiency in HRIS systems and Google Workspace; comfortable with various software platforms
Employment Terms: This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position. Must be a Michigan resident; preference given to candidates located in Detroit, Lansing, Ypsilanti or Grand Rapids areas. Remote position with limited travel. Reliable internet access is required. Salary range for this position is $50,000-60,000/year. Excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision, prescription, disability, and life insurance. Access to a 401k program and generous PTO.
