About Sister District Action Network/Sister District Project

The Organization

Since launching in the wake of the 2016 elections, Sister District has grown to nearly 60,000 volunteers across the country. We have endorsed candidates in 131 races across 17 states, 73 of whom won and have gone on to fight for progressive issues in their state legislatures. We have raised $4.25 million in small-dollar donations directly for our candidates and reached out to 3.5 million voters through phones, texts, postcards, and door knocks.

Sister District’s programming also includes civic engagement, legislator support, and political research, housed at Sister District Action Network. Through these programs, we train newly elected legislators and former candidates, conduct academic-quality political research, support community-based organizations, educate the public about the importance of state legislatures through events and programs and work with our allies on innovative programs to build progressive state power.

We are proud to be an organization founded and led by women, including women of color.
