The Service Employees International Union, Local 32BJ, is looking for a strategic researcher to support organizing and policy campaigns connected to new development and housing. 32BJ is the largest property services union in the country with 175,000 members in eleven states in the Northeast and Washington DC. 32BJ’s Research Department plays a vital role in the Union’s organizing campaigns by conducting research and developing and implementing strategies and tactics to advance campaign goals. Work includes serving as a resource and partner to campaign leadership, and performing industry, company and individual research.

Requirements:

  • At least two years of professional work experience in the labor movement or community, racial justice, immigrant rights organizing, government, non-profit or non-governmental organization, political or advocacy organization, corporate research or other relevant work environment.
  • Strong commitment to progressive social change and strengthening the labor movement.
  • Strong research skills and the ability to develop and contribute to strategic organizing campaigns.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets from a variety of sources.
  • Ability to analyze and communicate information in a range of formats to internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of the functions and machinery of government and the ability to operate in a political environment
  • Ability to work well under tight deadlines and apply an attention to detail
  • Capacity to manage work flow and collaborate effectively within a team environment

The position will focus on the Union’s work around residential and commercial development projects, rezonings and other issues related to hosing and development policy in NYC and NJ. The position is crucial to the Union’s efforts to strengthen the employment standards of building service workers and ensure that good jobs are created by responsible development. The Research Analyst will be required to perform work from both our New York City and Newark, NJ offices. Weekend work may be required on occasion.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The salary range for the position is $59,000 to $72,297.32 depending on a candidate’s skills and experience. 32BJ offers a full benefits package that includes employer-paid medical, dental and vision plans for full-time employees and their qualified dependents. The Union currently offers a remote work policy of one remote day per week at the discretion of the manager.
