Position Overview:
In partnership with the Finance Director, the Bookkeeper will provide support to BOOM staff and partners to support financial management in alignment with our values and team practices. This position requires a hard-working, innovative, organized, flexible, meticulous, and empathetic finance professional to support a network of Michigan-based non-profit organizations and entities to leverage, scale and innovate their work for transformative social change.
Responsibilities:
Support day-to-day financial operations of BOOM and partner organizations, including tracking revenue, monitoring expenses, processing accounts payable and receivable, and managing staff credit card expenses and reimbursements. Additional responsibilities include:
- Financial Reporting: Reconcile bank statements, prepare financial reports, assist with month- and year-end closing processes, and support annual partner & BOOM audit and 990 tasks.
- Grant Management: Record grant income, track grant budgets and expenses, and maintain communication with partner expense approvers.
- System Support: Support onboarding of new staff and partners to financial systems including Bill.com, Divvy, and Google Workspace. Maintain communication with partner expense approvers to support accurate and timely collection of receipts and classification of transactions as appropriate.
- Other Duties: Assist with various financial tasks as assigned, such as budget preparation, financial analysis, and compliance reporting.
Key Qualifications:
The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change, and experience working within a values-driven organization is strongly preferred. Additional requirements are:
- The successful candidate must believe in the core values of social, economic and racial justice and be driven by the mission of BOOM and its partners; cultural competence and experience working within diverse communities and staff required.
- Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required; experience providing bookkeeping support to non-profit organizations is a plus.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of certifications and experience required.
- General knowledge of different fiscal and legal entities (including 501c3, 501c4, PAC, LLC).
- Ability to understand and communicate financial policies, controls, and procedures.
- Excellent time and project management skills; a nimble self-starter with a proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
- Values-driven individual with a good sense of humor.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. A systems-thinker who is not afraid to take initiative, and transforms problems into opportunities.
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy.
- Working knowledge of Quickbooks Online, Bill.com/Divvy, and Google workspace required; generally comfortable with software platforms.
Employment Terms: This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position. Must be a Michigan resident; preference given to candidates located in Detroit, Lansing, Ypsilanti or Grand Rapids areas. Remote position with limited travel. Reliable internet access is required. Salary for this position is $70,000/year. Excellent benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and prescription insurance. Access to a 401k program and generous PTO.
