Overview

We’re looking to add a part time Community Organizer to our AQE team.The person in this role is focused on building the base of parents and child care educators who are interested in universal child care. The organizer will work directly with leaders and members to create outreach strategies to engage the community and build political strength. A community organizer must be personable and not afraid to use traditional organizing tactics to build the organization.

Who you are and what you’ve accomplished:

Minimum experience of volunteer or paid community, issue, or electoral organizing.
Ability and willingness to fully adopt use of Google Drive, EveryAction, Asana, VAN, Action Network, Spoke/Relay, and any other tools used by the organizations.
Superior communication skills via telephone, email, or in-person; ability to think critically and proactively and remain effective under pressure; collaborative team player as well as a self-motivated independent agent.
Basic cultural competency and a proven ability to connect and relate to people from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds.
Experience leading or managing volunteers or large groups of unpaid staff
Willingness to collaborate with team, staff, leaders, and cross-departments or organizations on local goals and plans. Being able to be flexible with time, and shifting priorities.  With guidance from the supervisor and coordination with other organizers in the area, taking initiative on tasks and projects, and being able to manage their own time.
Ability to travel, including having a reliable car and valid driver’s license

 

What you’ll do and the impact you’ll make:

Outreach and Recruitment – Create an outreach and recruitment plan of parents and child care educators for  committee meetings, mobilization efforts, and campaign tactics. Use organizing tactics such as phone banking, text banking, and canvassing in order to build and grow a capital region committee.
Administrative – Work with the Operations Coordinator to manage the chapter’s VAN requirements such as updating VAN with weekly one-on-ones, volunteer activities, and volunteer profile. Work with the Data Coordinator to create recruitment phone banks and canvass lists.
Legislative – Work with the team members and coalition partners to create outreach strategies based on the legislative campaign during the planning phase and support committee management and engagement (rallies, lobby visits, etc.)  during legislative sessions. Organizer will be supported on all of these activities by the Policy Director and Campaigns Director.
Any other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Salary: $51,188-$55,125, depending on experience.

 

In-person participation in meetings and events may be required at different locations.Periodic travel across New York State is required. Travel may be required outside of New York State. Travel may include multiple day trips and over weekends.
