Civic Nation seeks an Engineering Director for its Data and Technology team. The Engineering Director is responsible for supporting Civic Nation’s teams and initiatives through managing product development, supporting members of the Data & Technology team through building and maintaining ETL processes and data pipelines, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Civic Nation is utilizing best in class data infrastructure to make and manage programmatic decisions.


The Data & Technology team consists of data scientists, analysts, engineers, and IT professionals who develop, manage and execute the short-and long-term technical needs and roadmap for all parts of the organization’s internal operations and external initiatives, programs, and campaigns. In addition, the team provides robust data analysis, build and maintain a host of tools and infrastructure, and service Civic Nation’s internal needs.

Ensuring that both internal and external product development is in line with the needs and priorities of the Civic Nation team & initiatives
Working with stakeholders and vendors on understanding new and changing data models across Civic Nation’s suite of existing tooling
Empowering the Data & Technology team to provide decision-making insights through data architecture and documentation
Creating reusable processes or pipelines to enable user-triggered workflows that communicate with a variety of CRMs via API endpoints.
Support internal projects by identifying and ingesting relevant datasets
Administering the CivicNation GitHub instance

7+ years of analytics, engineering, technology, or equivalent experience, preferably in the non-profit and/or political space
Fluency in Python required, experience in JavaScript preferred.
Knowledge of database systems and SQL
Experience with workflow management tools (e.g. Mistral, dbt, Airflow, Prefect) in addition to workflow management platforms (e.g. Fivetran, Zapier)
Experience with data models from CRMs (e.g. EveryAction, Salesforce)
Experience with AWS preferred

High level project management skills with a commitment to development timelines and roadmaps
A team-focused, problem-solving mindset with a focus on developing both prompt results as well as long-term solutions
A high level of attention to detail and communication skills, and an ability to (and interest in) talk about data and technical concepts to a broad audience of people with varying technical backgrounds.
High level of comfort in a rapidly changing environment, and demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Commitment to documentation and excellent writing and editing skills
Strong organizational and time management skills, with an eye for details
Proficiency in Google Suite

The Washington, DC-based salary range for this position is $90,000 – $115,000 (will be adjusted for cost of labor for the incumbent’s work location) annually, commensurate with experience.
