The Director of Digital Strategy & Content leads Food & Water Watch/Food & Water Action’s (FWW/FWA) digital strategies to engage and mobilize supporters, support fundraising, and advance national campaigns. This position sets strategic direction around messaging, branding, and acquisition across channels and manages an integrated digital program. This position also works across departments to attract members, donors, and activists. This role manages a team of nine and reports to the Managing Director of Communications.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee the digital strategy and content department by: reviewing all work and content of the team; developing work plans; using independent judgement to ensure plans conform with the overall strategy of our campaigns; reviewing staff (and, when necessary, initiating and providing input into disciplinary action, including termination); and initiating and providing input and recommendations on hiring for open staff positions.
Coordinate with managers in the Communications Department to allocate staff resources appropriately, manage staff, and foster a team that will help FWW/FWA meet or exceed its organizational and campaign goals.
Oversee FWW/FWA’s digital mobilization and engagement strategy, including online-to-offline organizing, national and regional campaign digital strategy, fundraising, advocacy and online community management.
Ensure FWW/FWA uses the best digital practices and performs at a high level on all digital channels in order to grow the organization, deepen and retain its engagement with supporters and members.
Work in collaboration with other FWW/FWA departments to create and manage engaging campaigns to recruit new supporters and donors, cultivate and retain current supporters and donors, and upgrade donors into higher giving levels, such as monthly donors.
Manage and oversee digital vendors, including paid media, web consultants and others as needed.
In coordination with consultants, develop online ad strategies, including creating concepts and content, that elevate FWW/FWA and make people want to take action.
Manage organization-wide web projects, in collaboration with other staff.
Collaborate with staff across FWW/FWA to ensure a dynamic web presence.
Develop and achieve team Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) including but not limited to: goals for list growth, fundraising, engagement, reactivation, etc.
Carry out other projects, as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Experience:

B.A. degree in Journalism, Communication, Marketing, Public Relations or related fields, etc. Equivalent work experience or recognized industry certifications may be considered.
A minimum of 8-10 years of relevant professional work experience with digital campaigns, communications, and/or fundraising
A minimum of 3-5 years in team management experience and/or directing large national projects
Strong management, budgeting, analytical, and organizational skills
Broad knowledge of industry best practices
Experience successfully leading and collaborating on projects or teams in a large organization.
Experience designing and leading email and social media strategies/campaigns.
Adept at leading highly-skilled, diverse and remote teams.
Track record of successfully developing and leading innovative projects.
Computer Skills: The incumbent must work in a computerized environment and have adequate knowledge of word processing, email, internet and spreadsheet software; in particular have coursework or certification in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and proficiency with all other Microsoft Office products.
