The Social Media Coordinator helps maintain Food & Water Watch/Food & Water Action’s (FWW/FWA) social media channels in order to mobilize the organization’s base on digital channels to take action, donate, and ultimately help win our campaigns to protect our food, water and climate.
This position closely follows the news and FWA campaigns and priorities in order to populate FWW/FWA social channels with engaging, action-oriented content to reach new audiences and cultivate stronger relationships with current supporters, activists, and donors. This position monitors and contributes to the conversation around our issues, engages in one-on-one conversations with supporters, and responds rapidly to breaking news.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the day-to-day social media posting on FWW/FWA
Develop, schedule and post creative, engaging, goal-oriented content to our social media accounts to tie into ongoing FWA campaigns and capitalize on current events.
Help advise FWW/FWA state and regional pages on social media content.
Research social media content ideas, and target followers with consistent content and messages.
Brainstorm and collaborate with designers to select appropriate graphics and images for posts.
Help build relationships with online influencers with the goal of expanding FWW/FWA’s social media engagement and reach.
Respond to comments from supporters, donors, press and influencers in a timely fashion.
Assist in coordinating with the digital team and other departments as necessary to strategize, execute, and maintain paid social media efforts.
Pull monthly reports to track new followers, growth trends, and campaign successes.
Live-tweet on FWW/FWA social media accounts at online and offline events such as rallies, marches, petition deliveries, and other events as needed.
Support other digital team activities, such as taking photos at events, helping with rapid response for local and national campaigns, and other responsibilities as needed.
Carry out other projects, as assigned.

B.A. degree in Journalism, Communication, Marketing, Public Relations or related fields, etc. Equivalent work experience or recognized industry certifications may be considered.
At least 2 years of experience in social media non profit campaigning/strategy, organizing, or marketing. Experience managing large, national accounts or influencer accounts is a plus.
Deep familiarity with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram; experience with TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube and other social networks is a plus.
Experience in measuring and evaluating the performance of online content using tools like Facebook Insights or a social media management tool.
Strong communications skills.
Ability to converse and build relationships with supporters while remaining professional and on-message.
Experience responding to critical posts on behalf of an organization, in coordination with other relevant staff, is preferred.
Ability to take creative direction, juggle multiple simultaneous projects and manage competing priorities, including responding quickly to breaking news.
Passion for using new digital tools and tactics to create social change, and interest in sharing that passion with teammates.
A social media power user with the ability to stay up on the latest platform updates, track what’s trending and respond to important moments with clever, timely and engaging content.
Experience creating shareable images for social media, including using graphic design software (such as Photoshop) is preferred.
Computer Skills: The incumbent must work in a computerized environment and have adequate knowledge of word processing, email, internet and spreadsheet software, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and proficiency with all other Microsoft Office products.
