Organization Overview:

IfNotNow is building a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, cross-class movement of American Jews that can organize our community to end US support for Israel’s apartheid system and call for equality, justice, and a thriving future for all Palestinians and Israelis. We are fighting for a vision of collective liberation: where Jewish safety does not come at the expense of others, but is intertwined with the liberation of all people.

Role:

The West Coast Field Organizer is responsible for supporting and developing local leaders to build power in multiple chapters including Los Angeles and the Bay Area. This includes building local teams, providing skills training, and supporting the creation of local strategies to campaign around political targets and make critical narrative interventions. The West Coast Organizer is a key contributor to the national organizing team.

Responsibilities:

Field Support (30 hours per week)

Support chapter core teams in chapter cities through:
One-on-one coaching
Team and structure building
Relationship building
Providing organizing and skills training
Sharing national resources and updates
Connecting local leaders with national leaders, leaders in other cities, and additional national support structures
Model and build out strong chapter culture
Stay alert to dynamics around power and personalities in chapter cities
Demonstrate commitment to our multiracial principles and practices
Track and identify needs around conflict/relational processes and support leaders to bring in the right resources and mediators when needed
Support local strategy setting
Facilitate (and/or develop leaders to facilitate) local strategy sessions

Support National Organizing Department Projects (10 hours per week)

Attend weekly Field Team and All-Staff meetings
Support in building movement-wide trainings
Communicate input from the base to movement-wide strategy
Support with direct major donor stewardship through holding a portfolio of between 2-5 major donors
Other projects as needed and based on interest

Essential Qualifications

1-3 years of grassroots organizing experience (as paid staff or volunteer) in base-building organizations, issue-based campaigns, and/or social movement campaigns
Experience with one-on-one leadership development and apprenticeship
Experience building and leading teams
An understanding of IfNotNow and our role in the larger movement ecosystem, and a sense of personal stake in organizing American Jews against apartheid and occupation, and for equality, justice, and a thriving future for all Palestinians and Israelis
Personable, approachable, oriented towards building relationships across difference; able to motivate and empower others by helping them identify their own self-interest
Excellent communication skills
Coordination and project management skills. Able to track many moving parts, stay accountable to deadlines, plan projects over time, and make interventions/seek support when needed.
Able to give and receive constructive feedback, communicate across differences, and reflect with self-awareness.
Outcomes-oriented, and willing to find creative solutions to challenges.
Willing to take a high level of responsibility over IfNotNow as an organization and movement, and orient towards the bigger picture of our work.
Has awareness around dynamics around power and privilege and can work well with people from different identities

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with Los Angeles and/or Bay Area Jewish communal landscape
Familiarity with local Los Angeles and/or Bay Area progressive organizing landscape
Experience organizing locally or nationally with IfNotNow
