About Jane Addams Senior Caucus

Jane Addams Senior Caucus (JASC) is a multiracial, grassroots organization led by concerned seniors in the Chicago metropolitan area.  We cross-neighborhood, racial, religious and socio-economic lines to find common ground upon which to act on our values.  Through leadership development, organizing and popular education, we use the power of our collective voice to work for economic, social and racial justice for all seniors and our communities.

JASC is one of the only grassroots senior led organizations in the country and over the past forty-four years, JASC’s organizing has won groundbreaking victories to allow seniors to age with dignity. Through tenant organizing we have preserved thousands of affordable units for seniors, including most recently the Levy House in Rogers Park. JASC members were part of the national grassroots team of low-income tenants to design the National  Homes Guarantee platform. Our  members led the campaign to win a $25 Million elevator modernization initiative for the Chicago Housing Authority’s senior buildings.  In the last year JASC members have passed a city ordinance written by our membership called the Senior Safety Ordinance which provided critical protections during the pandemic for seniors living in the City’s 180 senior buildings.

JASC is hiring a Housing Justice Organizer to build power with seniors living in subsidized housing to further the work of JASC’s housing justice campaign teams.
