Job Title: Data Specialist

Hours: 40 hours/week, including occasional evenings/weekends
Salary Range: $42,000-$55,000, plus a benefits package including health, dental, and life insurance as well as vacation, and sick and safe time.
Location: Any LSP office (Minneapolis, Montevideo or Lewiston) or remotely

The mission of the Land Stewardship Project is to foster an ethic of stewardship for farmland, to promote sustainable agriculture, and to develop healthy communities.
Job Summary: This position will manage priority data projects and maintain the accuracy, usability, and quality of the data at Land Stewardship Project (LSP) and Land Stewardship Action Fund (LSAF). The Data Specialist will analyze data, create reports, build organizing lists, adhere to database best practices to inform and advise program planning and campaign strategies. The Data Specialist will work with the Director of Advancement and Co-Directors of LSAF to set the strategic goals for the organizations around data. They work as part of staff teams to help create data-informed action plans. They will train and support staff and member volunteers to use our data and technology systems to their fullest potential.
Data Management and Maintenance
Strategically manage data to strengthen program planning and cross-organizational efforts.
Lead the day-to-day management of organizational data.
Support membership, communications, digital organizing, voter engagement, and issue advocacy projects.
Coordinate data syncing across databases, tools, and dashboards.
Compile metrics and generate reports for all departments.
Implement data best practices and perform regularly scheduled data maintenance.
Identify and suggest analytics-based tactics for advocacy and electoral programs.
Work with organizers and directors to build and use data plans as part of their campaigns and outreach efforts.
Facilitate communications with CRM vendor, including leading the migration to a new CRM or managing an upgrade of our existing CRM.
Coordinate and collaborate with the Land Stewardship Project and Action Fund Data Teams.
Cross Organizational and Coalition Work
Collaborate with staff on data needs related to mail and digital campaigns, turnout, data tracking, virtual phone, text banks, canvassing, and data analysis projects.
Set up online forms with staff for event registrations, petitions, sign on forms, etc. that connect to our database across LSP and LSAF.
Respond to staff questions or needs regarding data and CRM use.
Facilitate the ongoing training for staff on database best practices and database features/tools.
Manage list maintenance, purchases and data systems between c3 and c4.
Represent LSP/LSAF at data-related coalitions and tables and maintain organizational data partnerships in collaboration with the Director of Advancement.
Participate in member-focused activities like workshops, field days, 1-1s, phone and text banks, and organizing meetings involving occasional travel.
Engage in internal and external gender, racial, and economic justice work.

Familiar with CRM platforms.
Can demonstrate excellence in systems level thinking.
Can demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
Can successfully manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Experience with grassroots organizing, electoral, fundraising and basebuilding campaigns.
Demonstrated success in using data to make a campaign more effective.
Strong in relationship building, cultivating trust, responding to feedback, and thriving in a collaborative environment.
Understanding of data as an organizing tool in political and electoral organizing.
Commitment to the mission and values of the Land Stewardship Project.
Experience with The Databank, PowerBase or EveryAction.
Familiar with the Voter Activation Network (VAN).
Familiar with programming language like SQL and HTML.
Experience managing a data migration or upgrade of CRMs.
Experience working or living in rural areas of the Upper Midwest.
Experience working at a membership-based organization.
Work Environment: We prioritize our shared values and your strength in successful supervision over your ability to work in our office(s). We have always had staff across the state, as well as in our offices in Lewiston, Minneapolis, and Montevideo, MN. There is no residency requirement for this position, so individuals based in other areas of Minnesota are encouraged to apply. You will engage with other staff and members regularly throughout the workday. This is currently a remote work position, so your work environment is up to you, but having a dedicated workspace and maintaining working hours reflective of office hours (M-F 9-5) is preferable, so you can effectively collaborate with other team members. We will provide you with the support and technology that will be necessary to complete your job duties.
Physical Demands: This is a computer/office work-based role which requires extended periods of stationary positions such as sitting or standing. This job also requires communication with the public, members, and other staff frequently, both verbally and in written form.
