Maine Youth Power, Operations Director

Full Time: 40 hours/week $43,000-$46,000 per year

Remote/in Maine: Flexible work schedule, with occasional nights and weekends.

Who we are: An inclusive youth-led movement of young Mainers working in solidarity for human dignity, access and a livable future by building power across rural and suburban Maine. Maine is a rural state and there is huge potential for organizing and building power among otherwise isolated rural youth who are frequently overlooked and underserved by national movements for social change. We’re fighting for a connected state where rural youth have the resources, skills, and community they need to create change in their communities, and build coalitions across issue areas.

A self-directed individual passionate about using your writing, data management and finance skills to support youth-led community organizing in Maine.
Deeply dedicated to breaking down systems of oppression and working creatively to build an alternative future where all people thrive.
Excited to work with a small team and manage the operations tasks that make our programs possible! This role is a massive opportunity for growth in nonprofit management, operations and grant writing, and building relationships in Maine.

You have:

Experience in non-profit 501c(3) and 501c(4) operations, grant management, and finances.
– OR–

Strong communications skills (written and oral), experience with data management, and an excitement to learn grant management and other financial operations of a youth-led non-profit.

About the position:  You will be a key member of our director team, holding down administrative tasks and bringing your creativity to our internal systems for optimization of our organizational structure! The day-to-day of this role has three primary focus areas: grants management, finance tracking, and communications support. This job includes a wide variety of operations tasks within those categories so each day will be different. A successful candidate will be very organized and able to keep track of multiple projects and important deadlines. As part of the director team, you are an ambassador of Maine Youth Power. When your availability allows you will have the opportunity to attend events, direct actions, and community calls. Alignment with our mission to build youth power to win human dignity, equity, access and a livable future in Maine, and willingness to get involved with these activities is essential for you to succeed in this position. This position will allow you to align with our goals to commit to the intersection of rural youth and race, class, climate and economic justice in order to create a bold, livable future for all Mainers.

Role and Responsibilities:

Grants
Finances
Communications
• Writing applications and managing due dates

• Generating written + financial reports

• Meetings with potential and current grant makers

• Managing relationships with institutional funders and MYP’s fiscal sponsor

• Researching new funding opportunities
• Tracking expenses and receipts

• Tracking income

• Creating and updating budget

• Active facilitation role in pay equity practices

• Leading grassroots donation campaigns

• Keeping documents organized
• Managing activist database

• Managing voter file data

• Tracking outreach analytics

• Creating and implementing a communications plan alongside co-director team

• Updating website

• Attending events

Essential Skills/Alignment:

Dedicated to creating environments that are pro-black, pro-indigenous, pro-queer & trans and liberatory spaces.
Dedicated to building social power to challenge oppressive systems.
Able to effectively manage deadlines and be a proactive communicator with the Co-Director team.
Strong writing skills and excited to add your own voice to the existing communication style of Maine Youth Power.
Proficient with spreadsheets and data management.
Excited to be an MYP brand ambassador and deeply invested in Maine
