Title: Development Coordinator

Reports to: LaRonda Schenck Scott, Development Director

Salary: $65,000 – $75,000 (Based on experience)

Work Schedule: Full-time, Exempt

Location: US Remote

 

The National Black Worker Center is eager to welcome a Development Coordinator to our dynamic team. This is a crucial role focusing on individual donor development and grant management. ABOUT NATIONAL BLACK WORKER CENTER:

In response to disproportionately high levels of unemployment and low wage work in Black communities, the National Black Worker Center Project (NBWC) – a national network of Black worker centers – launched in 2011. We support and incubate worker centers who empower Black workers to advance their rights and improve the quality of jobs in key employment sectors. We provide education about the impacts of low-wage work and unemployment on Black communities and work to prevent racial discrimination in hiring and other employment practices and policies. Through our network we intervene in the labor market to improve racial and economic employment conditions. Partnering regional Black worker centers are in Los Angeles, CA; Chicago, Il; New Orleans, LA; Baltimore, MD; Raleigh-Rocky Mount, NC; Greenville, MS; Washington, DC; Pittsburgh, PA; Philadelphia, PA; and Oakland, CA. Our network consists of membership-based and member-driven organizations that utilize a combination of leadership development, organizing, policy advocacy, and strategic communications to build power to address the Black job crisis.

 

OVERVIEW:

As our Development Coordinator, you’re not just managing data and donations—you’re fueling a movement. You’ll have the opportunity to spearhead our individual giving program, enriching our grassroots impact and paving the way for economic and social justice. You’ll report to our Development Director and collaborate across functions to ensure that our mission translates into sustainable funding and community impact. As the Development Coordinator, you will be responsible for ensuring the achievement of revenue goals through the creation and execution of a comprehensive individual donor cultivation and stewardship plan.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Mission Leadership:

  • Act as a brand ambassador, translating our mission and vision into opportunities that drive impact and revenue growth.
  • Collaborate with team members to communicate mission impact and leverage stories for donor cultivation.
  • Demonstrate leadership that mobilizes volunteers, increases donor relationships, meets fundraising goals, and positions NBWC as an insight source into anti-Blackness in the workplace.

Nonprofit Fundraising & Individual Giving Strategy:

  • Develop, own, and manage an individual giving program, taking full ownership from conceptualization to execution.
  • Provide a tailored experience for donors throughout the year and create mission-led activations for all donors in stewardship plans.
  • Develop and implement personalized individual donor engagement and stewardship plans that promote long-term commitment.
  • Assist in developing a strategy to promote individual donors to mid-level and major gift donors.
  • Implement core tactics for exceptional fundraising events and design personalized individual donor engagement experiences.
  • Cultivate and expand a diverse portfolio of donors, aligning their philanthropic objectives with NBWC’s mission.
  • Ensure a consistent revenue pipeline throughout the year, leading to the acquisition of new revenue for campaigns, programs, and initiatives.

Grant Writing & Management:

  • Secure funding through compelling grant applications and ensure proper management of grants received.
  • Translate NBWC’s mission into actionable fundraising strategies that result in increased revenue and donor engagement.
  • Manage existing grants and cultivate relationships with foundations and other funding bodies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

While no one person will embody all of the qualities described below, the ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:

  • Demonstrated commitment to Black workers, workers’ rights, and social justice and racial justice values
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar role with a focus on individual gifts
  • Proven experience in personally raising funds; must be able to indicate the extent of your direct contributions to previous fundraising efforts.
  • Ability to develop relationships across diverse communities and sectors.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is $65,000 – $75,000 depending on experience. Through NEO Philanthropy, this position is offered a full benefits package, including 100% medical coverage for the employee and 90% medical coverage for dependents; 100% coverage for vision, dental, life/AD&D, long-term disability.
