New Hampshire Progress Alliance (a 501(c)4) and its sister organization, New Hampshire Democracy Fund (a 501(c)3), focus on building a permanent and powerful progressive movement in New Hampshire that is supported by a network of committed donors. Our joint vision is a New Hampshire that is a healthy, just place to live with shared economic success and security and a democracy that works for all. Our current priorities are to defend the democratic process, expand the electorate, develop civic leadership, and drive effective communications. We seek an exceptional person to support our political (c4) and civic engagement (c3) programming and objectives.

Program Director Position
This is a full-time position and requires a diverse set of skills, attributes, and experience in the areas of strategy, operations, grant management, and external relations.

Responsibilities include:

Strategy: Develop and implement an overall political strategy focused on building long-term infrastructure for consistent and durable policy and electoral wins. Provide ongoing strategy and organizational development support to grantee partners, particularly those working in communications and field efforts. Collaborate with our partners and allies to identify gaps and opportunities, build coalitions, and leverage the funding and engagement of the Progress Alliance and Democracy Fund.

Operations: Work closely with coordinating, field, and communications partners to lead our efforts to ensure a healthy democracy, particularly in the areas of fair maps and voting rights. Understand, share, and adopt best practices and models.

Fundraising/Grant Management: Engage and manage individual and institutional national funders and participate in donor table member events. Actively oversee grant allocation and performance and apply rigorous criteria to investments, deliverables, and outcomes.

External Relations: Develop new relationships with key political leaders in-state and nationally and provide visible, respected, and collaborative political leadership.

The program director is also a key member of the leadership team for these two organizations. In addition to the responsibilities specific to this position, the program director works to ensure the overall success of the donor table’s mission by establishing work plans that are both ambitious and a good fit with available resources and by maintaining strong relationships with partners and allies. The program director also participates in fundraising and member stewardship activities.

Qualifications include:

Minimum 5-7 years of relevant work experience including in-depth and up to date knowledge of New Hampshire’s progressive infrastructure, regional and national political trends, best practices from other organizations and states, experience with grassroots organizing and/or electoral efforts, and fundraising.
The ability to build strong relationships with coalition partners at a variety of experience levels, both local and national.
Proven ability to take the initiative, work independently, make tough decisions, and work in a dynamic, multi-task environment.
Strong people skills, good judgment, discretion.
Assertiveness and tact in handling confidential and sensitive issues and documents.
Exceptional written communication skills.
A demonstrated commitment to progressive values.
This is a full-time position working remotely. This position reports to the Executive Director. Some travel (when COVID permits) both in-state and out-of-state will be required.

Salary: $90,000 annually.
