Overview
The NYC Public Engagement Unit (PEU) connects New Yorkers to key City services – housing, healthcare, transit, emergency services, and much more. We bust through bureaucracy to make government work. We connect with hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers every year. PEU is democratic service at its best — an inspiring place to work.
About Us: Our Data & Analytics Team plays a pivotal role in all of PEU’s programs. We find the New Yorkers most in need, and give our outreach teams the tools to help them. We’re a tight-knit, high-skill team of eight folks within the larger PEU team of 250. We’ve got big ambitions.
About You: You, our future Data & Analytics Director, are an accomplished manager of both people and projects. You have leadership experience on some sort of data team; perhaps within a political campaign? Government agency? Nonprofit organization? Tech startup?
Frankly, your leadership and project management skills are more important than your technical skills. You can work with data, but you can also translate for non-technical collaborators. You’re a great traffic cop, expertly triaging requests and balancing priorities. Folks like working with you.
Perhaps most importantly, you want to have real, tangible impact on people’s lives. You care less about flashy titles and stock options, and more about making a difference. And through all its joys and pains, you love New York City.
Salary: $100,000 – $115,000
Location: New York City (multiple offices: 253 Broadway, 260 11th Avenue)
Benefits: Exceptional! Healthcare, pension, dental/vision, life insurance, generous vacation, and much more
Qualifications
- 6+ years work experience in a data-related field, including 2+ years managing others.
- Working knowledge of campaign data tools and techniques, including the tools listed above.
- Ability to manage and analyze data in SQL, Python, R, or a similar scripted tool.
- Experience translating non-technical requests into technical requirements, and technical jargon into plain language.
- A belief in the power of local government to improve people’s lives.
