Physicians for Social Responsibility Los Angeles (PSR-LA) is seeking a Director of Finance and Administration. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Finance and Administration Director is a new position that will manage finance, budgeting, bookkeeping, project management, HR, 501(c)3 compliance, human resources, IT and administrative support for the organization.


PSR-LA has experienced significant growth over the past three years. As our needs and systems grow more complex, the Finance and Administration Director will be a strategic thought-partner and report to the Executive Director. As part of the Executive Management Team, the Director will guide the team in financial, administration and human resources management and decision-making. The Director will play a critical role in partnering with the Executive Director and the Management Team in strategic decision making, budget planning, reporting  and operations as PSR-LA continues to build capacity after a period of significant growth. The Finance and Administration Director supervises the Finance and Administrative Associate, and provides oversight for organizational contractors and consultants.


The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptive and collaborative. They will have 3-5 years previous experience in nonprofit management with budgets in the scale of $1M – $5M and excitement about managing day to day operations and financial management. The successful candidate will be a hands-on and participative manager and will have the ability to lead and develop the PSR-LA finance and administration staff team with experience in the following areas: finance, budgeting, strategic planning, project management, human resources, administration, and IT.

Specific Requirements

Proven experience in scaling an organization’s operational processes and procedures
Previous experience with fiscal responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting, and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area
Experience with oversight of a human resources function preferred
At least 3-5 or more years of experience with three of those in a team management role
Knowledge of systems like Expensify, Quickbooks, DocuSign and CRM databases
Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, and selecting and successfully operationalizing programs
Strong project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth
Experience having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group
Strength in managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility, span-of-control, and performance
A track record in financial management of grants
Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with vendors; knowledge of accounting and reporting software
A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision-making
Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for PSR-LA’s mission
Understanding of and commitment to racial, social and environmental justice is a must

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related field required, with MBA, CPA or related Master’s Degree preferred. Experience and training directly related to this position will be considered in lieu of the degree.

Employment Status: Full-Time Exempt Salaried

Location: Position is based in Los Angeles, CA. We have been working remotely since the COVID-19 pandemic began, however qualified applicants should reside in the Metro Los Angeles region and be able to access our Los Angeles based office.

Compensation:  Salary range is $85-95K, withthe final salary to be commensurate with experience. Remote work is available with some office visits. PSR-LA offers a robust benefits package that includes employer paid healthcare, dental, vision premiums for employees and dependents, as well as paid time off,  professional development and staff wellness benefits. Employees have two weeks paid vacation time, holidays and an extended break between Christmas week until the New Year.
