Physicians for Social Responsibility – Los Angeles (PSR-LA) is seeking a Land Use Program Associate. Reporting to the Land Use and Health Program Manager, the Associate will will work in PSR-LA’s Land Use and Health Program, which aims to: (1) promote healthy land uses and community-led land use planning; (2) reduce exposure to toxic pollutants from past and current industrial uses; and (3) forestall and eliminate the possibility of forced displacement and gentrification, particularly in South Central Los Angeles.


Reporting to the Land Use and Health Program Manager, the Land Use Program Associate will support the Manager in the implementation of our TIERRA Project and and our People, Parks, and Power initiative, which seek to advance a strong policy agenda that establishes environmental justice and health principles, practices, and policies in the soil restoration and redevelopment process. The Associate will support research on the impacts of harmful land use and soil contamination on parks, green spaces, and the built environment. They will support the Manager in building the capacity of residents and built environment advocates to engage in conversations and advocacy around equitable and safe brownfield remediation. The Associate will also support the Manager in  the implementation of project goals including engagement with organizational partners and community stakeholders around intersectional issues critical to a healthy built environment including housing, transportation, and economic development.


Two to four years’ experience in a combination of areas: environmental health and justice, organizing and coalition/community building, working in communities of color, environmental and/or social policy & advocacy.
Passion for environmental and racial justice.
Strong writing and verbal presentations skills with the ability to develop content for reports, newsletters, blogs, and regular emails to coalition partners; other needs as they arise.
Experience with applications such as Slack, Google Drive, and the Microsoft Suite.
Knowledge of digital organizing.
Familiarity with land use or public health policy at the local or state level.
Proven track record of strong project management and organizational skills, including attention to detail, ability to effectively prioritize tasks with little supervision, and work independently to accomplish assignments and projects.
Ability to facilitate successful and productive internal and external meetings.
Ability to work as part of a close-knit team.
Deep listening skills and ability to be clear, direct, honest, and transparent.
Convey a strong sense of connection, respect, and mutual trust with staff, partners, and stakeholders to help unlock collective knowledge, lived experiences, and creative capacities.
Bilingual, Spanish/English preferred.


Education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Employment Status: Full-Time Exempt Salaried

Location: Position is based in Los Angeles, CA. We have been working remotely since the COVID-19 pandemic began, however qualified applicants should reside in the Metro Los Angeles region and be able to access our Los Angeles based office.

Compensation: Salary ranging from $60,000 – $65,000 based on experience. PSR-LA offers a robust benefits package that includes employer paid healthcare, dental, vision premiums for employees and dependents, as well as paid time off,  professional development and staff wellness benefits.
