Position Title: Senior Accountant

Reports To: Founder, Howie Stanger

Location: Remote (California is a plus!)

Hours: Full Time, Exempt

Compensation: $80,000-$120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Position Description

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the accounting and bookkeeping rhythms for all Pocketbook clients. They will work to develop internal systems that standardizes a monthly accounting schedule for all clients, execute bi-weekly payroll, and prepare financial statements. They should be experienced in nonprofit financial management, and passionate about helping our partners win. The senior accountant is expected to be a creative problem solver who will represent the firm, as well as clients, with outside vendors and partners.


Internal Controls and Systematization – 20%

Create an internal calendar to meet all financial reporting deadlines.
Create and oversee financial and compliance reporting for clients.
Assist clients with financial policy development and internal controls.

Accounting and Bookkeeping – 70%

Manage accounts payable and receivable.
Execute monthly bookkeeping, and perform bank reconciliations.
Manage (accounting only) payroll and payroll reconciliations for clients.
Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.

Financial Returns & Audit Preparation – 10%

Preparing and managing federal and state financial returns for clients.
Assisting with audit preparation for clients, if necessary.
Prepare and file 1099’s and w2’s for clients annually.

Prior Experience

Must Have

3 years of nonprofit accounting experience.
Required knowledge of Quickbooks Online, Excel, Google Workspace.
Working knowledge of GAAP.
Alignment with organizational mission.

Nice to Have

Bachelors or Master degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
Management experience.
CPA License.
Prior knowledge of  501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), or 527 organizations, multi-entity organizations, or FEC campaign finance rules and regulations.
Experience with nonprofit and or foundation grant reporting requirements.
Volunteer and or paid work experience with progressive political organizations or businesses.
