In 2024, Relentless is running a first-of-its-kind compensated relational program at scale across battleground states using Rally. This program will hire 20,000+ low turnout voters to become relational organizers in their communities and turn their friends and families out to vote. We’re looking for a creative, experienced SMS Manager to help power and scale this program.

The Deputy Director for SMS Recruitment will oversee the National SMS recruitment program.

As the Deputy Director for SMS for the 2024 National Program at Relentless, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing our SMS recruitment strategy across five targeted states. You will oversee the strategic recommendations and implementation of our peer-to-peer mass texting program, ensuring we reach thousands of potential mobilizers. A great Deputy Director for SMS Recruitment is someone who lives and breathes all things recruitment, digital and texting, and believes fully in the power and abilities of relational organizing. You are an extremely organized person that enjoys getting creative on new ways to recruit and activate voters, and tackling large scale projects. You can stay on top of deadlines and priorities while also seeing the big picture of the election cycle.

The Deputy Director for SMS Recruitment will report directly to the Director of Recruitment and Partnerships and assist them in managing the SMS and recruitment program’s day-to-day operations in conjunction with the entire Recruitment team. This role will hire, onboard, and manage staff, oversee the health of the program through metrics and tests, and complete other duties necessary to running an effective and engaging SMS program.

This is a full-time, remote, and temporary position with an target start date of June 11th, 2024 and an end date of November 15, 2024.

Location: Remote
Compensation: $7,000-$8,000/month

  • Coordinate and manage strategic recommendations on SMS program and the sending of text messages (SMS) to recruit Mobilizers in our five targeted states
  • Manage staff to help in the execution of the Mobilizer recruitment program
  • Coordinate with the Recruitment team to ensure programmatic cohesion at a National and state level
  • Utilize peer-to-peer mass texting as a core component of Relentless’ recruitment program, enabling the outreach to thousands of voters through exponential scaling.
  • Streamline recruitment efforts by providing mobilizers with materials to enhance communication of the program’s benefits.
  • Empower mobilizers to effectively promote the program and drive sign-ups using their unique referral links.


  • 2-3 years of experience working with a large scale SMS programs
  • 1-2 years of management experience
  • Familiarity with Peer-to-Peer texting platforms (Scale to Win preferred)
  • Enthusiastic about learning new tools and platforms
  • HTML knowledge preferred
  • Experience running and analyzing A/B tests
  • Exemplary grammar and writing skills
  • Experience working in Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel
  • Understanding of current trends in political environment

This work will require being available nights and weekends during peak program days and as Election Day nears. The Deputy Director for SMS Recruitment should expect to be online and available six days a week from September 3rd-November 6th.
