The Research Director at ActBlue will establish and lead a Research team and policy program dedicated to vetting, legislative tracking, and tracking threats to ActBlue and digital fundraising. They will also oversee the execution of rapid response research and serve as an important partner in combating disinformation. The Director will work alongside and collaborate with key stakeholders in the Outreach, Communications and Marketing, and Customer Service departments, as well as the ActBlue Cybersecurity team. The Research Director will report to the Chief Impact Officer of the Outreach departments.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Contribute to and understand departmental and individual objectives and targets, as well as align these with ActBlue's mission, vision, and strategy.
- Lead and develop ActBlue’s opposition, vetting, and rapid response research strategy.
- Track policy and legislation at all levels to understand and disseminate the real-world impact of specific issues on ActBlue’s business and digital fundraising.
- Craft the long-term strategic vision for the department and develop strategic plans to make that vision a reality; establish systems and processes that foster seamless collaboration and communication amongst department staff as well as with other ActBlue teams and stakeholders.
- Identify, drive, and collaborate with Communications and Marketing on research-driven message and narrative opportunities.
- Collaborate closely with other ActBlue departments to provide critical research support for targeted account management, communications, marketing, and disinformation work.
- Manage a team of skilled researchers with political, opposition, rapid response, fact-checking, and key issues tracking experience
- Ensure research identifies organizational and message opportunities
- Design and lead ActBlue’s research team, including organizational research to help prevent anti-small-dollar donor, anti-online fundraising, or anti-digital narratives from taking hold
- Cultivate and guide the professional growth of the research team by establishing and maintaining thoughtful opportunities to learn, grow, and receive constructive feedback.
- Pursue programs, projects, training, and other initiatives that balance departmental and organizational work, rapid response efforts, short and longer-term opportunities.
- Execute projects with scalability in mind.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- 10+ years of experience managing research programs for political campaigns, committees, non-profits, or similar causes.
- At least 8 years of experience managing a team in a fast-paced environment;
- Deep understanding of how political research teams operate and succeed together and a willingness to innovate using new tactics and tools to drive impact even further.
- Technical familiarity with political research practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, as well as an ability to work closely with colleagues in related fields like communications, political, digital, and others.
- Extensive experience managing staff and familiarity with budget management, consultant management, and project planning.
LOCATION AND COMPENSATION:
This posting is for a full-time, remote, salaried position.
