Title:  Regional Digital Organizer

Fight for $15 and a Union Campaign

Location: Can be based in any one of these cities: San Diego, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Oakland or San Jose, California. Northern California preferred.

Reports to: California Digital Organizing Coordinator and California Coordinator

Supervises: This position does not supervise staff

Position Description: Last year California fast food workers made history and won landmark pro-worker legislation to create the nation’s first Fast Food Council, raising standards for over 550,000 workers. The SEIU-NFFWU Regional Digital Organizer coordinates digital communications and online worker organizing efforts to support the campaign to lift workplace standards in the fast food industry. The Regional Digital Organizer will generate digital content for promotion on social media and email as well as support organizing fast food workers online.

This is a bargaining unit position.

SEIU NFFWU is working to expand the movement and deepen the successful fights to raise employment standards and unite workers in organizing their union in the fast food industry through national, state and community campaigns.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and implement a regional social media and digital organizing strategy that advances the goals of the campaigns’ digital communications strategy.
Create digital content that amplifies the voices of fast food workers through photo, video and storytelling.
Coordinate narrative content collection with field directors and partners.
Manages regional event digital communications including strategy, message, visuals, materials, promotion and social media.
Oversees live event coverage for regional and national days of action, including preparing spokespeople in conjunction with the communication specialist and organizer(s) and reviewing live content to ensure message and legal discipline.
Lead digital advertising for contact acquisition and oversee the peer to peer texting platform to engage fast food workers.
Provide trainings for staff and fast food worker leaders in online organizing, digital story-telling and digital advocacy.
Support the coordination of partners and allies participating in the campaign’s regional digital communications.
Performs other duties as assigned in support of promoting digital work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

●       A commitment to winning economic and social justice for working people in the fast food industry.

●       Desire to develop and implement strategies on a wide range of campaigns, including organizing, political, and legislative.

●       Knowledge of digital strategies and online organizing.  Strong online writing, verbal, and analytical skills.

●       Demonstrated capacity to continuously develop knowledge and skills related to use of rapidly changing technology.

●       Must have demonstrated ability to manage own work and work of others without supervision.

●       Requires a high level of judgment and ability to take initiative and work independently

●       Must be able to act and organize time with extreme independence.

●       Familiarity with digital advertising, graphic design software, and other web development tools and applications desired.

●       Familiarity with CRMs, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and Content Management System theme development desired.

●       Ability to write and proofread Spanish desired.

●       One year relevant work experience preferred

●       Driver’s license required

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Fluent in speaking and writing in English, Spanish a plus, with additional compensation for bilingual employees starting at $1800 per year.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is generally performed in an office setting, but job may require work in the field or in other settings to perform the tasks required to complete assignments. Must be available for frequent travel with overnight stays and able to work long and irregular hours.
