The Position
This will be first pro-democracy field experiment in the US., and to ensure success in our campaigns we need people who are passionate about addressing the polarization in our country and finding ways to have conversations that build a pro-democracy American electorate.
Turf Directors are expected to support the work of voter contact and registration campaigns by making sure we are reaching the right voters in the right areas. Successful candidates will bring expertise in the many features of VAN and GSuite, along with a willingness to learn new mapping and database management systems. We are looking for people who are familiar with the demographic profile and walkability of the districts we’ll be working in, as well as a deep concern for canvasser health and safety. Responsibilities of the Turf Director will include turf packet preparation and cutting; canvass results data entry and analysis; data integrity surveillance; turf and precinct tracking.

Position Overview
The Lead Organizer will help develop and implement a pro-democracy deep canvassing experiment, as well as co-supervise a team of canvassers with the support of the Canvass Directors. The position will support the deep canvassing team (of up to 9 other canvassers) to implement a 3-5 month program that has at least 750 in-person conversations with voters, plus additional conversations by phone, as needed. The position will also participate as an active canvasser in the program.

Areas of Responsibility
Team Recruitment Outreach + Onboarding
Identify people and locations from which to recruit additional canvassers
Onboard each new canvasser with appropriate paperwork and tech tools set-up

Voter Contact
Participate as a lead canvasser, meeting weekly voter contact goals
Prep all voter contact materials, including scripts and turf
Implement script revisions from team script iteration sessions
Make turf adjustment recommendations and implement need changes
Train new paid and volunteer canvassers, as they are onboarded
Run daily debriefs with canvassers and ensure daily reporting gets to Canvass Directors

Data Management
Manage all canvass data, including ensuring all data is within the system within 24-48 hours after any canvass shift.
Manage data pulls for Canvass Directors, as needed.

Admin/Supervision
Participate in weekly canvass team calls with Canvass Directors
Conduct weekly check-in calls with individual canvassers
Complete weekly action reports on canvass results

Qualifications
Ability to work at least 10-20 hours per week, during prime canvass times (evenings and weekends)
Genuine curiosity about others, including those who have very different views and life experiences
Willingness to proactively engage strangers in difficult conversations
Ability to complete daily canvass reports and participate in weekly team meetings
Ability to go door-to-door to have conversations with voters.
Ability to travel up to 150 miles outside of homebase.

This is a temporary, part-time hourly position at the rate of $20.00/hour. The position will run from May 1st – September 30th or until the project is completed. The position reports to the Co-Canvass Directors, who are located in Boise, Idaho. All organizers/canvassers will receive access to the needed tools and technology for the required work.

Applicants from Treasure Valley and surrounding areas will be prioritized for this Lead Organizer, however all Idaho locations will be considered.
