Overview

Worth Rises seeks a dynamic Director of Campaigns (exempt), based in the Northeast, MidAtlantic, or Midwest region, to support the national policy and corporate campaign work of the organization. This individual should have experience working in grassroots organizing, particularly on policy and corporate campaigns. They should be a high-level thinker, strategist, and doer able to navigate a variety of environments with skill and integrity. The Director of Campaigns will work report to the Chief of Staff and work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement campaign strategy, build a broad base of directly impacted people and allies, convene and coordinate coalitions, and advocate to elected officials.

Worth Rises is a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to dismantling the prison industry and ending the exploitation of those it touches. Partnering with directly impacted people, we work to expose the commercialization of the criminal legal system and advocate and organize to protect the economic resources extracted from affected communities and strip the industry of its power. Through our work, we strive to pave a road toward a safe and just world free of police and prisons.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the Campaigns department, managing a new and growing team
  • Co-develop and execute the organization’s campaign strategy with the Executive Director and Chief of Staff
  • Co-develop and lead policy and corporate campaigns with coalition partners and community members, including facilitating meetings, organizing events and direct actions, driving traditional and digital advocacy, and managing collateral production
  • Develop and execute base building strategies in directly impacted communities that elevate their voices and center their leadership, analysis, and stories
  • Foster and deepen relationships with partner organizations working at the intersection of economic and criminal injustice on both the national and local level
  • Meet with legislators, investors, and other decision-makers to persuade action
  • Work closely with Director of Communications to move traditional and digital communications strategy in service of campaigns
  • Track and assess campaign progress and needs
  • Frequent travel required, depending upon public safety guidelines

Desired Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with at least two years of management experience, especially the management and development of directly impacted staff
  • At least five years of experience developing and running campaigns, specifically legislative and corporate accountability campaigns, including drafting legislation, direct actions, and digital advocacy
  • Experience managing large coalitions and volunteers
  • Strong relationships with the abolitionist, criminal injustice, and racial justice organizers
  • Directly impacted by the prison industry or has significant experience working with directly impacted communities
  • A working understanding of the prison industry, including finance, or strong interest in learning

Compensation and Benefits

Worth Rises offers a generous compensation package, including full medical, vision, and dental coverage, 20 days’ vacation time, ten days’ personal/sick leave, and three days’ bereavement leave. Employees also receive a $75 monthly contribution to their phone bill. The annual salary for Director of Campaigns is $110,000.
